Spelling pattern – ation and ssion for spelling of ‘shun’ sounding words.
When words have 3 syllables and the third is an a sound, and the ending of the word is a shun sound, then the spelling pattern is ation
Occasion is sion as there is only one syllable before the a sound, but there are some words that have ation with 2 syllables (this is the most popular spelling of shun when an a precedes it)
