Year Five

Welcome to Year Five

Welcome to our Year 5 page!

In Year 5, we encourage the children to become independent and enthusiastic learners.

We have an exciting range of themes to engage everyone: (WW2, Space & North America) as well as thought provoking and practical science lessons. We aim to make our learning environment stimulating, creative and supportive (with the help of our children) and value what everyone has to offer.

Please use the link below to see all of the information shared at the Year 5 transition meeting.

In year 5, the following homework will be given out weekly:

Maths homework – maths workbook pages to be set and discussed each Wednesday (ML5) and each Thursday (FL5)

Grammar homework – Grammar workbook pages to be set and discussed each Thursday (ML5) and each Friday (FL5)

Spellings – to be given out and posted below each Friday (Mrs Dhand’s group – Thursday), with a spelling test taking place in school the following Friday. Please try to practise your spellings at home at least 4 times per week. Number of practise sessions are checked in school weekly.

Reading – we would like all children to read a minimum of 4 times per week at home and to have their reading diaries signed by an adult at least once per week. Diaries will be checked in school weekly.

In addition to the above, homework grids will be sent home and posted on our Y5 page. These consist of creative or research based tasks to enrich the learning in school.

Spellings

If you are at home, but well enough to access some learning, please complete the following tasks:

  • Log on to Times Tables Rockstars daily to practise your multiplication and division facts: https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth
  • Make sure you spend some time each day reading – you can also catch up on reading the current chapters of your class Book Talk book
  • Practise your spellings and apply your learning by putting them into your own sentences. Use a dictionary to check the definition of any words you are unsure of
  • Complete the pages of your maths and grammar workbooks that have been set for the week you are off.
